Teacher Statement:

I believe in setting musical goals with the student and/or parents and then working with the student to achieve their personal goals. I also believe that music should be fun and I have selected a wide variety of classical and jazz duets that are great fun for students. I also hold a large recital each year so all students who want to perform can do so.

Background/Experience:

John is a member of ASCAP with over 30 original compositions. He is a member of RAFA (Raleigh Area Flute Association) and has studied performance flute with the former second flute of the Chicago Symphony and Dr. Robert Billington(DMA University of Miami). Recently he has attended master classes with Dr. Stephen Preston at Wildacres. John has also given presentations to local corporations (e.g. Glaxo) on "Music & The Relaxation Response" to help educate employees on using certain music as stress relief. He has independently produced two CDs, Tolisha & Project Bluebook. He has previously served as a Wake County all county saxophone judge for middle school students. Recently he was hired as the Jazz Band elective conductor for Green Hope High School under Dr. Beamish and conducted the GHHS jazz band at Artsplosure in 2007.
