John Billington
is a composer / soloist / producer / instructor at the Bach to Bebop music
school in the Apex, Cary, Chapel
Hill, Durham, Garner, Holly
Springs, Fuquay Varina, Morrisville, Raleigh, NC area. He is one of the teachers / instructors
providing private lessons on flute, saxophone, clarinet,
and electronic wind instrument.

John is a member of ASCAP
with over 30 original compositions. He is a member of RAFA (Raleigh Area Flute
Association) and has studied performance flute with the former second flute of
the Chicago Symphony and Dr. Robert Billington(DMA University of Miami).
Recently he has attended master classes with Dr. Stephen Preston at Wildacres.
John has also given presentations to local corporations (e.g. Glaxo) on
"Music & The Relaxation Response" to help educate employees on
using certain music as stress relief. He has independently produced two CDs,
Tolisha & Project Bluebook. He has previously served as a Wake County all
county saxophone judge for middle school students. Recently he was hired as
the Jazz Band elective conductor for Green Hope High School under Dr. Beamish
and conducted the GHHS jazz band at Artsplosure in 2007. He also worked with
the saxophone Wind Ensemble at Athens Drive High School under Dr. Jerry
Markoch in 2007.

-John is the father of two children and enjoys working with beginners as well as advanced students. His students have achieved recognition as winners in the middle school all county concert and symphonic band competitions, in middle school all district concert and symphonic bands, in middle school all state honor bands, and in high school All District and All State bands. In
2003 -2004 and 2006-2007 two of the top four alto saxophone positions in the
All District middle school symphonic band were Mr. Billington’s students. In
2004 -2005 three of the top ten flute positions in the All District symphonic band were his students. One of his middle school students made
All State for the 2005-2006
and 2006 - 2007 seasons on tenor and alto sax respectively. In
2007 -2008 his students included a
high school freshman All State alto sax symphonic and
All State jazz band
winner, a high school senior All District Band winner, two middle school 7 th graders
who took
the top two symphonic band tenor sax positions at All District, and a
RAFA flute division winner . In 2008-2009 his students included a high school sophomore
1st chair All State alto sax symphonic band winner who scored the highest score of any instrument in the
competition,, a high school senior All District Band saxophone winner, a 8th grade middle
school student who took
1st chair All State tenor sax and had the highest score of any instrument in the
competition, another middle school student who took 1st place Concert Band All District on Tenor Sax, and a 6th and 8th grade
clarinet players who made All District and the Triangle Youth Orchestra.
In 2009-2010 his students included a
high school freshman
1st chair All State tenor sax winner , a high school
junior All District Band alto saxophone winner and UNCG Honors Band
1st chair alto sax, a 7th grade middle
school student who took 3rd chair All State
bass clarinet and All District symphonic band bass and bb
clarinet, , and two middle school flute students who made Concert Band All District. His high school students have been accepted in music programs at Belmont University, UNC Greensboro, UNCW, ECU, Berklee School of Music, and
University of NC School of the Arts (2009 Fall semester). |
